“One day, an old man was walking along a beach that was littered with thousands of starfish that had been washed ashore by the high tide. As he walked he came upon a young boy who was eagerly throwing the starfish back into the ocean, one by one.

Puzzled, the man looked at the boy and asked what he was doing. Without looking up from his task, the boy simply replied, “I’m saving these starfish, Sir”.

The old man chuckled aloud, “Son, there are thousands of starfish and only one of you. What difference can you make?”

The boy picked up a starfish, gently tossed it into the water and turning to the man, said, “I made a difference to that one!””

Partner with The Elpis Foundation to support Philadelphia & Pittsburgh Area Hospitals and Local Businesses.We won’t be able to help everyone, but we will do what we can to help as many ‘starfish’ as possible!

With your help, Elpis will provide meals and food packages for Medical and Facilities hospital staff.

The Doctors, Nurses, Facilities / Maintenance Workers and Back Office Staff are focused on supporting those in need right now so we want to support as many as we can by providing meals during their shifts or packages of produce and food to use at home. We will be focusing on the PENN Health System (HUP, Penn Presbyterian and Pennsylvania Hospital) and the Pittsburgh VA Hospital.

We also want to support our local businesses so we will be working closely with area restaurants, farmers and markets and purchasing meals and fresh food from them directly.

At each of the hospitals, there are 50 to 60 departments
Each department has between 25 and 50 employees
It will cost between $400 and $700 to provide each department employee with a meal or fresh food to help at home
